Election 2010 update

This year promises to be an interesting election year for all of us here in the Sonoma Valley.

Locally, there’s not much happening since the Supervisor’s job won’t be up until 2012, although elections in the Second and Fourth Districts could make a major change in the Board’s make-up going forward, with long time incumbents Mike Kerns and Paul Kelly bowing out.

Other county offices up for election include all nine judges, Superintendent of Schools, Auditor/Controller, Clerk/Recorder/Assessor, District Attorney, and Sheriff-Coroner with all incumbents running for re-election.

At the State level, Pat Wiggins is also bowing out due to medical problems which have been well documented in the press in past months. Wiggins is the 2nd District Assembly member who represents about half of the Valley. March 17 is a crucial date for her to decide to resign – which many people have encouraged her to do. If she resigns before then, the governor could call a special election or appoint a replacement. If she quits afterward, the seat would remain vacant until the end of her term on Nov. 30, when whoever wins the regular election takes office.
