Kenwood Preschool has openings

The Kenwood Preschool, long considered an educational building block prior to entering Kenwood Elementary School, currently has openings for the upcoming school year.

Led for many years by Mary Dodson and Karen Bergeron, the preschool was first established in 1992 and serves children ages 3 to 5 years old.

“The continuity of veteran preschool educators provides the type of environment everyone would want for their children as they get ready to enter Kindergarten,” said Kenwood School District superintendent/principal Bob Bales.

The preschool, in operation for over two decades, is located right next to Kenwood Elementary School, and uses a professional early childhood education curriculum for both indoor and outdoor activities.

The Kenwood Preschool is operated under the administrative umbrella of the Kenwood Elementary School, is licensed by Sonoma County, and is subject to annual review by the State of California’s Child Development Division. Sonoma Valley income eligible families can attend the preschool for free.

Program goals of the preschool include establishing comfort, familiarity and safety for children, and providing appropriate developmental challenges for preschool age children. Staff ratio is one adult for every eight children.

A Parent Advisory Committee meets every month, and helps organize events for the preschool. Parents are encouraged to volunteer in the classroom.

The preschool center is open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with the preschool program itself lasting from 8:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. A mid-morning and mid-afternoon snack is provided.

To make an appointment to see the preschool, call the Kenwood School District office at 833-2500, or the preschool itself at 833-6551.
