LCA keeps on giving

Dear Editors,

To all that have continued to make the Lights, Camera, Auction! fundraiser for the Kenwood Elementary School such a huge success over the years, you deserve a very big THANK YOU.

It is also an event that keeps on giving, as we discovered recently when we took advantage of a very generous auction donation by Steve and Colleen Rose, owners of our local Vineyards Inn, from last year’s auction.

This was a gift certificate for a very creative tapas and wine-pairing which we shared with Paul and Linda Kruzic, Julie Roth and Steve Rogers.

My first mistake was to assume (never assume, right?) that tapas were small plates. The arrival of the first plate quickly dispelled that rumor. Each plate served was paired with a wine carefully chosen by Steve, and proved to be a wonderful companion to the food.

What did we have, you ask? How about this menu: fried cod wrapped in sorrel leaf, sliced beets with homemade mozzarella (I hate beets no more), lamb sliders, fries with eyes (very small whole smelt fried crispy, and I know I saw eyes), mushrooms with a reduction sauce accompanied by small slices of French bread, sweet potato and crab gnocchi, spicy chicken wings with an aoli dipping sauce, and, last but not least, chicken livers with kale (and I didn’t think I liked chicken livers). All this was followed by a dessert of ice cream parfaits.

The best part of the whole evening is that we were there because of a local fundraiser helping a local school with a gift certificate donated by a local restaurant that was packed with local people.
