Food Bank adds Kenwood, Glen Ellen pick up locations
If you or someone you know has been affected by last month’s fires and is in need of food, the Redwood Empire Food Bank’s (REFB) Station 39-90 disaster-response food distributions are here to help. Offering fresh produce and staple groceries at locations throughout Sonoma County, Station 39-90 is completely free and open to anyone impacted by the recent fires. New pick up sites have been added in Kenwood and Glen Ellen. On Nov. 18, those in need of food can visit St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church at 9000 Sonoma Hwy. in Kenwood between 8:45 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. or Jack London Village at 14301 Arnold Dr. in Glen Ellen between 10:15 a.m. and 11 a.m. With the increased need, these will be reoccurring events, so check the REFB’s website at refb.org/fire-updates/ for current times and locations.
Additionally, with so many families preparing for a first holiday season without a home, Foster Farms has donated $100,000 in cash, as well as 1,000 holiday turkeys and 40,000 pounds of poultry to the REFB, which may help contribute to a sense of normalcy in their lives.
REFB will start distributing the donated turkeys next week at their Santa Rosa Station 39-90, on Wednesday, Nov. 15, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., and from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. with the help of local Boy Scout Troop 121 and volunteers from Exchange Bank. The 40,000 pounds of donated poultry will be shared among the various food distribution locations, including those in Kenwood and Glen Ellen.
The Foster Farms donation will allow the REFB, through its Station 39-90 distributions and 12 innovative programs, to provide over 250,000 meals this holiday season.
“Families are just starting to rebuild their lives, making hard decisions about where to spend limited funds,” said David Goodman, the REFB’s chief executive officer. “This donation from Foster Farms makes a significant difference in the lives of these families, providing critical protein and holiday cheer, without the added stress of choosing between paying a bill or preparing a family meal.”
