Design review up for new Kunde projectAt its Jan. 17 meeting, the county's Design Review Committee will be taking a look at Kunde Estate Winery's newly proposed 5,776-square-foot barrel building. The project also includes two 1,520-square-foot covered patios. The winery is located at 9815 Sonoma Hwy.
The Design Review Committee considers the project's design only, and does not approve or deny the project.
The meeting starts at 2:15 p.m. in the hearing room of the Permit and Resource Management Department, 2550 Ventura Ave. in Santa Rosa.

Swede's Feeds assists Wildfire Flower CampaignLocal Kenwood couple Amber and Jacob Lippincott are organizing a campaign to re-seed the Valley of the Moon's burned hillsides with native wildflowers and grasses. More than simply adding beauty back to our scenic valley, these native plants will play a crucial role supporting an array of wildlife struggling with the effects of the recent wildfires.
These native plants are great for natural erosion control, which is very important after the fires. Dispersing seeds of native flowers and grasses will help rebuild the area's ecosystem.Wild blossoms and seeds are food sources for bees, butterflies, birds, deer and countless others.
Swede's Feeds is assisting in this effort to restore biodiversity.
Buy a bag of native wildflower, California poppy, or native grass seed at Swede's Feeds and donate it to the Wildfire Flower Campaign.
Amber and Jacob will need some help dispersing the seeds, so a volunteer list has been started. If you can donate your time, let them know at 774-1955 or 703-0894.
Free job fairs in 2018Sonoma County employers from all industries can meet qualified job seekers at four free job fairs hosted by Sonoma County Job Link and the Workforce Investment Board (WIB).
All job seekers and employers are welcome to attend any or all of the fairs, though each event has a theme:
Feb. 15, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., “New Careers for Workers Over 40”
March 29, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., “Careers for Workers Re-Entering the Job Market”
May 17, 3-6 p.m., “Entry Level Job Opportunities”
Oct. 11, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., “Careers for Workers with Disabilities”
Applications for employers who wish to participate are being accepted now for all the 2018 fairs. There is no cost to have a table, wi-fi and space to set up recruitment materials. Leader of SV Chamber steps downHaving served as CEO of the Sonoma Valley Chamber of Commerce since November 2015, Patricia Shults is leaving to take the leadership role at Art Alliance Austin.
“With our active membership, strategic partnerships and our sponsors, the Chamber is poised to move into 2018 ready to meet the mission with a strong program of work,” said Eric Gullotta, outgoing board president. “Patricia will be missed and we are thankful for her efforts to get us to where we are today.”
“Our businesses are the fabric of our community, and it has been a distinct pleasure to work to support their success,” said Shults. “That is our number one job at the Chamber and it will continue to be so with the strong team we have in place.”
The Chamber board has designated a transition committee to search for a replacement, and is in the process of hiring an interim CEO in the meantime. Shults last day with the Chamber is Jan. 26.

Wine Industry classesThe Wine Business Institute (WBI) at Sonoma State University (SSU) will unveil a new format for its executive program in wine industry finance and accounting, with two full-day workshops on Feb. 3 and 17 from 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. “Understanding the Numbers: An Introduction to Wine Business Finance” with instructor Geni Whitehouse, CPA and winery consultant at Brotemarkle, Davis & Co., will take place on Feb. 3.
On Feb. 17, instructor Tom Sheppard, CFO and Partner at CFOs2Go, will lead the workshop, “Budgeting & Financial Analysis for the Wine Industry.” Cost of each workshop is $360 and includes lunch. Both workshops are the academic equivalent of two seminars for students currently pursuing the Certificate in Wine Industry Finance and Accounting.
“Understanding the Numbers: An Introduction to Wine Finance” is designed to introduce students to general accounting concepts relating to the wine industry.
“Budgeting and Financial Analysis” will explore successful budget and forecasting methods.
