Polo field only for horses
After more than a decade of access, dogs and their owners are no longer allowed to use the polo field near the entrance of Wild Oak, adjacent to the village of Oakmont. Owners Vic and Karen Trione posted “no trespassing” and “no parking” signs after deciding to return their property strictly to equestrian use. The Triones wanted to give $25,000 to the community to help establish a dog park somewhere in Oakmont, but their offer stalled over legal issues concerning donations.
Dog owners, meanwhile, wanted to form a club to search out a new location, but the Oakmont Village Board of Directors said the search should instead be handled by a board-appointed committee. Board President Gloria Young said the issues, including the request to form a dog owners committee, would be placed on a February board agenda, adding, “Things don’t happen overnight here.”
