Getting their hands dirty

volunteers dig on the trail
Conservation Alliance volunteers hike down a trail at Hood Mountain Regional Park on April 25. These volunteers joined more than 200 others for a work day on fire-affected trails in the park. The workers were employees of a number of outdoor recreation businesses that make up part of the Conservation Alliance, including REI, CamelBak, Marmot, Clif Bar, and Gu. The Alliance’s mission is to, “engage businesses to fund and partner with organizations to protect wild places for their habitat and recreation values.” A nationwide organization, The Alliance organizes periodic open space work activities, giving their employees a paid work day to get their hands dirty. This was the first time they have ever had a project in the North Bay. Photo by Alec Peters and Melissa Kelley
