Susan Millar, who led many Oakmont initiatives and committees over the past 13 years, died on Saturday, May 19, after a valiant fight with cancer.

Millar, 78, was an Oakmont champion and dedicated her time and resources to the community’s vibrancy. She was current president of the Oakmont Community Foundation and chair of the Community Development Committee.

She also served on the Oakmont Village Association Board from 2007 until 2010, and was board president in 2009-2010. In 2013 Millar co-chaired Oakmont’s 50th Anniversary Celebration.

Sue and her husband Jack were also contributors to and supporters of the Sonoma Land Trust for more than 30 years. “It was one of her and my favorite charities,” Jack said. They joined the trust after purchasing a cabin on the Russian River in the 1980s.

Millar was active in the University of California Alumni Association, and recently helped interview Santa Rosa Junior College candidates for association scholarships.

The Millars moved to Oakmont from Orinda in December of 2005.

In the East Bay, Millar was part of a committee that worked successfully to have Lafayette declared a city, and then was part of a similar effort in Orinda. She also was a founder of the Orinda Library, and helped raise funds for its building.

Survivors include two sons, John R. II of Houston, Texas, and Christopher of Bonita, California, and four granddaughters.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
