Special outing to Calabazas Creek Preserve Calabazas Creek Open Space Preserve

Saturday December 14th - 9:00am

The public is invited to attend the “Valley of the Moon’s Hidden Gem” outing at the Calabazas Creek Open Space Preserve on Saturday, Dec. 14, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Preserve was protected by the Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District in October of 2004 for recreation and preservation of its natural resources, including the stretch of Calabazas Creek that cascades down the canyon. This property – one of the most exquisite natural sites in Sonoma Valley – is currently closed to the public except through guided outings and the District’s volunteer patrol program.

The District is currently developing a management and trails plan, with the goal of ensuring greater public access and a Bay Area Ridge Trail connection.

Join Sonoma Ecology Center naturalists for a winter exploration through the Calabazas Creek Open Space Preserve. The preserve is known for its stunning vistas, open meadows, waterfalls, redwoods, and oak woodlands, providing hikers with a multitude of microclimates, as well as a place for a rigorous hike.

This is an intermediate to advanced level hike, and will take place rain or shine.

There is no charge for this outing. Reservations are required online by 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 13 by visiting www.sonomaecologycenter.org. For more information or questions, contact Jessica Glatt at 996-0712, ext. 110 or Jessica@sonomaecologycenter.org.
