Bob Dylan celebrated at Oakmont benefit concert
Oakmont Berger Center
Thursday December 1st - 7:00pmBob Dylan will be celebrated at a benefit concert at Oakmont’s Berger Center on Dec. 1, 7-8:30 p.m., to support the new Oakmont Care and Resource Center for Elders (CARE). Tickets are $10, and a variety of Oakmont residents will perform a sampling of early Dylan tunes.
Thanks to a collaboration between the Sonoma County Council on Aging and the Oakmont Village Association (OVA), this senior social day program will meet two days a week in the upper room of the West Recreation Center.
The CARE project began back in February of 2015 when a small group of Oakmont residents, realizing the need for social activities appropriate to the elders of Oakmont, started investigating the opportunities available in Sonoma County.
CARE partnered with Citizens Organized to Prepare for Emergencies (COPE) to determine the current needs for this type of program and found that there are at least 100 residents eligible for the proposed social day program. An application for a state license requested by the Council on Aging is pending.
Oakmont’s Kiwanis Club is the fiscal sponsor for CARE, providing it with 501(c)(3) status, enabling CARE to accept tax free donations and apply for foundation grants.
The Council on Aging agreed to bring a social day program to Oakmont. The program will bring exercise, entertainment, companionship and meals to Oakmont elders and provide respite for caregivers.
To purchase tickets for the benefit concert, make a check out to the Kiwanis Club of Oakmont Foundation for $10 per person, and place it in the CARE folder at the OVA office. For more information, call 888-6334.
