Quarryhill Botanical Garden to host fundraiser for science education
Quarryhill Botanical Garden
Saturday May 20th -Quarryhill Botanical Garden will host the 5th annual “Wild Collections: Expeditions for Education” fundraiser on Saturday, May 20, 5:30-8 p.m. Celebrating its 30th anniversary, Quarryhill is committed to improving science education for students in Sonoma County, but needs community support to achieve its goal of providing hands-on opportunities through its science education program.
Shrinking budgets have taken a toll on elementary science education and many schools are now relying on scientific institutions to provide hands-on opportunities to keep students engaged. Last year Quarryhill hosted 1,400 fourth and fifth grade students in its science education program.
Enjoy the profusion of flowering dogwoods, irises and rhododendrons while sipping cocktails, sampling Asian-inspired cuisine, and listening to the sultry sounds of Raquel Berlind’s jazz band.
The evening concludes with speaker Paul W. Meyer, the F. Otto Haas Director of the Morris Arboretum, who will talk about the importance of educating children about nature, followed by a brief Fund-A-Need to benefit Quarryhill’s education program.
Quarryhill Botanical Garden is located at 12841 Sonoma Hwy., Glen Ellen. For more information, go to www.quarryhillbg.org or call 996-3166.
