Take a mindful walk at Jack London Jack London State Park

Saturday December 9th - 9:30am

The everyday activity of walking, combined with an awareness of oneís breath, oneís own body in motion, and oneís surroundings, can reward the mindful walker with a deep calm and increased sense of belonging in the natural world. The easy discipline of mindful walking offers a valuable enhancement to the long-established benefits of walking as exercise.

On Dec. 9, explore this lovely activity on a relaxed, 1.5-mile, moderate walk to Jack Londonís Lake and then, if you want, you can extend your mindful experience another three miles. Guide Jeff Falconer will begin the journey with a brief overview of walking meditation, followed by a short standing meditation to ground and center you before embarking.

Falconer has practiced meditation for many years. He spent time at an ashram in India in the early 1970s, and is also a Tai Chi enthusiast and an avid, mostly mindful, hiker. His newly published booklet on walking meditation will be available for purchase to guide your personal journey after the class.

This event runs 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. to the lake, with an optional extension leaving from lake 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Meet in the ranch parking lot at Jack London State Historic Park. Admission is free.

Note: Much of this walk is on uneven ground. Contact the office at 938-5216 with questions.
