Celebrate Buddha’s birth at SMZC
Sonoma Mountain Zen Center
Sunday April 8th - 1:00pmFamilies and friends are invited to commemorate Buddha’s birth with a Flower Festival on April 8, 1 p.m., at the Sonoma Mountain Zen Center. This is a special and joyous day that will include the traditional pouring of sweet rain over the baby Buddha. Please bring flowers to adorn the baby Buddha. A potluck buffet will follow, so bring and share your favorite dish. The outdoor reception runs 2-4 p.m.
For those who would like to dig deeper, a Birth of the Buddha Sesshin will be offered on April 4-7. Sesshin, meaning literally “to touch the Mind,” is a period of time set aside for an intensive meditation retreat to let go of the conditioned self and resume our original nature. This silent meditation intensive is for beginners and experienced practitioners alike. It runs from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. and includes 10 periods of meditation, chanting, mindful work, and a Dharma Talk. Special arrangement can be made for those who can only attend part of the sesshin. Cost is $45-$65 per day.
The Sonoma Mountain Zen Center is located at 6367 Sonoma Mountain Road. Visit www.smzc.net for more information.
