World religions studied at Star of the Valley Star of the Valley Catholic Church

Thursday September 20th -

Star of the Valley Catholic Church (SOV) in Oakmont is presenting a new series that is free and open to anyone wanting a deeper understanding of world religions.

“A Brief Introduction to Major World Religions” will focus on cultures of Asia and the Middle East through a series of lectures and discussions. The classes will start in September and continue to February.

Instructor Marcella Fox, an active SOV member, describes the project as a “respectful learning adventure.” The free classes will meet Thursdays, 1:30-3 p.m., at the Monsignor Fahey Parish Center, 495 White Oak Dr.

On Sept. 20 and 27, the first presentation will be on Hinduism; followed by Buddhism, Oct. 11 and 18; Confucianism/Taoism on Oct. 25 and Nov.8; Judaism on Jan.10 and Jan. 17; and Islam on Jan. 31 and Feb. 7.

Registration is not required, but for planning purposes, prospective participants are urged to contact Christina Wadsworth at 583-3194 or email mcbogota@yahoo.com.

Fox earned her Master’s in Theology from the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley and her Doctorate in Education from the University of San Francisco. For the past 30 years she taught world religion to high school and university students.
