Sonoma Mountain Zen Center (SMZC) hosts its Second Annual Mandala Bazaar on the Mountain in support of its Mandala Building Project. Admission is free.

Unique and diverse local artisans and craftspeople will present a broad selection of treasures to take home, including Buddhist woodcarvings and sculptures, Japanese-style kimonos, mixed media and fiber art creations, bamboo flower vases, ceramics, handmade jewelry, original sumi-e paintings and more.

Visitors can enjoy delicious BBQ-style lunches, homemade baked goods, sweets and refreshing drinks under the oaks.

Throughout the day there will be performances and demonstrations by Sonoma County Taiko (11 a.m.), Omotesenke Tea Cermony and Shakuhachi flute (11:30 a.m., 2 and 3 p.m.), Gingko Kyudo Way of the Bow (11:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.), Ten Ten Taiko with audience participation (12:30-2p.m.), New School Aikido (2 p.m.) and Eight Immortals Tai Chi sword (12 and 3 p.m.)

A raffle at 4 p.m. will offer many prizes, including dinner at Hana Japanese Restaurant, family membership at Quarryhill Botanical Garden, gift certificate for Santa Rosa Community Market, and a framed original calligraphy by SMZCs renowned Abbot, Jakusho Kwong-roshi, author of No Beginning, No End. Tickets ($4/each) can be purchased online at or email at, from a Zen Center member, or by calling 545-8105.

The Centers ongoing Mandala Building Project, begun in 2004, will support the construction of a temple complex to reflect the spirit of Zen for centuries in Kwong-roshis words, a sanctuary in which we can awaken to our true connection with the universe we share with every being and thing.

Whether youre interested in art, Zen or a unique experience, SMZCs bazaar has something for you. The Sonoma Mountain Zen Center is located at 6367 Sonoma Mountain Road.
