California naturalist course

Sugarloaf State Park

Thursday March 15th 2018 - to

Now that Sugarloaf State Park is open again, it’s time for the Spring 2018 California Naturalist program to commence, held this year from March 15 to May 15.

Back by popular demand, this 10-week program will be held mostly on Tuesday evenings at Robert Ferguson Observatory, with a few alternate Thursdays. In addition there will be six Saturday field trips to various Sonoma Valley locations – such as Sugarloaf, Annadel and Jack London – led by experts including Bernie Krause, David Herlocker, Breck Parkman and staff ecologists. The course runs evenings, 6-8:30 p.m.

Given Sonoma Valley’s post-fire landscape, special emphasis this season will be on the fire ecology of our crucial oak woodlands ecosystem. The course also will incorporate lessons on restoration, citizen science and how to be an engaged community member, with lots of data to collect, observations to make and restoration efforts to undertake.

The CalNat course is always popular, and openings go quickly. Tuition is $445, with partial scholarships available depending on level of need. To enroll, go to www.brownpapertickets.com/event/3329284.
