Friday June 22nd 2018 -
The annual Funky Fridays summer concert series returns on June 1 to the lawn of the historic Hood Mansion on Pythian Road, courtesy of the Sonoma County Regional Parks Foundation, in conjunction with concert organizers and Kenwoodians Bill Myers and Linda Pavlak. The 14-week live music series will run through August 31.
The 2018 concert series brings back some popular local bands, as well as three newcomers. Audiences will once again enjoy Volker Strifler, Funky Dozen, Frobeck, Soulshine, Poyntlyss Sistars Band, The Bluesburners, Stax City, Dylan Black Project, Soul Fuse, Jami Jamison Band and Gator Nation. New for the 2018 line-up are Levi Lloyd & Friends, Sidemen, and Rock & Roll Rhythm Revue.
Kenwood Vineyards has joined the Funky Fridays team as the official wine sponsor, offering a range of premium wines for sale by the bottle or by the glass. Henhouse Brewing Company returns as the exclusive beer partner. No outside alcohol is permitted at the venue, and concert-goers are encouraged to pack a picnic or visit the onsite food vendors – featuring TIPS Tri-Tip Trolley, Picazo Café, Rainy Day Chocolates and Sweet Scoops.
According to Melissa Kelley, executive director of the Sonoma County Regional Parks Foundation, the concerts have raised over $100,000 for the parks since 2016, and the proceeds from the 2018 concerts will support special projects at regional parks throughout Sonoma Valley, especially the fire-damaged Sonoma Valley Regional Park and Hood Mountain Regional Park and Open Space Preserve.
Gates open at 5:30 p.m. with show time 7-9 p.m. Adult admission $10; children 18 and under are free. Tickets can be purchased at the gate or at the Kenwood Press office. Special ticket bundles of 10 tickets for $50 are also available. Parking is free.
