History volunteer and docent opportunities

If you are enthusiastic, intellectually curious, love history and enjoy meeting people, the Sonoma Valley Historical Society has opportunities for volunteers.

Volunteer docents are needed to provide information to visitors at the Depot Park Museum. Docents are provided educational training through lectures, an instruction manual, and being paired with experienced docents. Docents are asked to commit to working three hours per month.

The historical society houses many Sonoma Valley collections, thousands of photos, slides and images, ephemera, and a newspaper collection that goes back 150 years. Collection volunteers can assist by using their computer skills, data entry and scanning, filing and organizing the collections.

Closely allied with the collection volunteers, research volunteers can assist the public with their genealogical research, with many inquiries about architecture, local citizens, and the history of the Valley. The Historical Society plans to be open several days a week, and library experience is invaluable.

Interns can gain experience by working in an archival facility. Build your resume and learn about history at the same time.

For further information, contact the museum at 938-1762.
