County, city to observe one-year anniversary of wildfires
The County of Sonoma and City of Santa Rosa will hold a ceremony on Oct. 8 in downtown Santa Rosa at Courthouse Square, in observance of the one-year anniversary of the Sonoma Complex fires. The ceremony will include a memorial bell ringing to remember those who lost their lives in the fires and provide an opportunity for community grieving, healing and reflection through public chalk art expression.
Starting at 4 p.m., chalk will be available for the public and chalk art will be encouraged on sidewalks around Courthouse Square. The public chalk art will continue Tuesday, Oct. 9, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. The ceremony begins at 6 p.m. with a reading by Sonoma County Poet Laureate Maya Khosla, and the memorial bell ringing.
Additional remembrance events are being planned throughout Sonoma County by other community organizations. For a list of other remembrance events, visit SonomaCountyRecovers.org.
