Cal Alumni Club gives out $16K in scholarship money

The Cal Alumni Club of Oakmont/Sonoma County had a very successful 2018 fundraising year. The club contributed $8,100 to the California Alumni Association in support of the Oakmont Alumni Club Achievement Award. This program awards $6,000 per year for up to four years to a high achieving, incoming Cal student who might not otherwise have the resources to succeed at the college level. Recipients are often the first in their family to attend college.

The club also provides four, one-time $2,000 scholarships to SRJC graduates transferring to Berkeley. This year’s recipients were Shanon Connell, a physical science major, pursuing a career in electrical engineering; Brenda Cross, a business major; Farah Mardini, a nutrition major, looking forward to a career as a hospital nutritionist; and Junchi Zhang, a business major. Congratulations to all these future Cal graduates!

In total the club donated $16,100 in scholarships in 2018.

For more information on membership, contact Bonnie Lukes at 537-9631 or visit the club’s website at oakmontcalalums.org.
