One family's Thanksgiving
It’s almost Thanksgiving, and time, once again, for our annual list of things for which we are thankful. We thought this year we’d expand it to include things for which our kids are thankful – always interesting!
Ross, age 19 (away at college)
- Gas money
- Top Ramen and PB&Js
- Home-cooked meals
Gus, age 17
- Gas money
- Premium sports channels
- Global warming (I want to be warm year-round.)
Elizabeth, age 15
- iTunes (If it was free, I’d be even more thankful.)
- Allowance
- Indiana Jones, because where would we be without the iconic hat and the famous one-liners?

I’m thankful that my glasses never break, though I drop them at least five times a day. I’m thankful my car isn’t very big, because it would just be more space to junk up. I’m thankful for Sawyer’s News because it has the best variety of magazines you could ever want. And, no, I don’t hang out in that part of Sawyer’s. Finally, I’m thankful I have a wife who likes to cook. If that were my job, our family would have macaroni and cheese for Thanksgiving dinner, and Jello for dessert (maybe with some marshmallows in it).

I’m thankful to Elizabeth for loading my iPod, which I had for three years and never used. What a cool toy! I’m thankful for our puppy, Kona, who forces me to go outside and play in the mud. I’m thankful for Brett Favre and the Green Bay Packers. I decided to root for them this year because they’re actually good, and rooting for the Niners is such a waste of time. I’m thankful for the taco truck that used to park at the Kenwood Gas Station. I miss those delicious $1.50 tacos de carnitas!
And, of course, we’re thankful for our families, who all come to our house on Thanksgiving Day. We can’t wait to see you. And thanks in advance for all those dishes you’re going to wash!
