Letters to the Editor for June 1, 2009
Max learns about LCA on the internet
[Max Kindly replies to the latest letter from Lights, Camera, Auction! chairs, Andie Altman and Alice Horowitz]
June 1, 1968…I think
Dear Alice and Andie,
Ladies, I have got to tell you your last letter had my head spinning, so I did not know whether to spit or wind my watch. Since you two are so convinced this is 2009 and not 1968, I decided to go have a little chat with the guy who sold me my “new” 1968 Mustang Bullitt. When I get to the Ford place they tell me the guy hasn’t worked there in years and is now selling hybrids (whatever that is) somewhere in L.A. That move may have saved him a kneecap, if you get my drift. So then I decide to stop by the office to talk with a lady friend to see if she can make heads or tails of all this. No sooner than I showed her your letter she was laughin her head off and, faster than you could say Jackie Robinson, pulled out her lap box or whatever she called it, typed in www.KenwoodEducationFoundation.org and presto…there was a world of information about Lights, Camera, Auction!
Right in front of my eyes on that little screen I saw that on June 6 at the Imagery Estate Winery there is going to be a fantastic event with lots of good food, wine, music, dancing, and more, and for a few saw bucks more there is an earlier event with more food and drink, plus one of my all time favorite artists, Wes Wilson. What I really found amazing was with a simple click on “LCA Webpage” I saw Wes Wilson’s latest poster, one he created just for Kenwood School, and with another click on “2009 LCA! Catalogue” I could read about the hundreds of prizes to bid on at the auction. The fact so many people have been willing to donate so much to help the kids in the Kenwood School is mindboggling.
So when we get done looking at your “website,” my lady friend starts saying how much fun it would be for us to go to LCA! Then she starts talking about how she loves kids and why couldn’t we just hop on a plane and fly there from Vegas. So I gotta tell her the last time I was on a plane was on June 6, 1944 when I and 17 other guys are told to jump out of the plane over Normandy and when it comes my turn I tell the sergeant I bought a ticket for Berlin not Normandy so he says, “Max, kindly step out of the plane for a moment to let these other gentlemen disembark,” so I did and before I hit the ground I swore I would never get on another plane and, if I ever got back home to Vegas, I would never leave. And that is how I came to be known as Max Kindly and why I never leave Vegas. But if I do, I’ll be the one with the pretty little red head by my side, and the Blackjack in my pocket.
Don’t forget to write.
Your friend,
Max Kindly
