A sad sign of the times
We were saddened at the demise of Sonoma Valley Bank, which has been our bank since 1995. It was a difficult situation for the board of directors and officers to be in, and a regrettable sign of the times. We hope that Westamerica Bank will keep the current staff in place, especially at the Glen Ellen branch where we are regular customers. On a personal note, we’d like to thank the employees of Sonoma Valley Bank for always being friendly, courteous and helpful, even calling us one time to say that we’d better get in and make a deposit quick! They explained to our children the advantages of opening an IRA account, and sympathized with them when they had to withdraw money from their savings accounts to pay back Mom and Dad for things like bodywork on the station wagon, or a spring break trip they really, really wanted to take. We just hope that Westamerica will have the same community spirit and willingness to help local businesses that Sonoma Valley Bank had.
We hope you enjoy our photo contest results (See Pictures with the Press special insert). We think this was the best year we’ve ever had. In fact, we had so many submissions that we will run another photo spread in the next issue. Our winners, the Hill-Goldstein and Guerrazzi Families, have become a Glen Ellen juggernaut. Every year they submit great photos, and have won before, so let that be a challenge to the rest of you! Next year, try to knock out these perennial favorites with your own great snaps. It was a lot of fun looking at all the photos, and we were once again overwhelmed at the lengths to which people will go to get a Picture with the Press. Thank you all.
The school year has begun, and with it comes the Spaghetti Feed put on by Kenwood School 6th graders to raise funds for the annual trip to Yosemite in the spring. We know many people who think this is the best fundraising event of the year, and they may be right. The setting of the Maple Ring on the Geib Ranch is truly magical, the food is delicious, you get to be served by the 6th graders themselves, and the price is right. So mark your calendar for Sept. 12, and buy your tickets in advance to save some money. Just call the school, 833-2500, or ask any 6th grader.
As for us, now that we are officially empty-nesters with our youngest child off to college, we will be spending as many Sundays as we can at Candlestick Park watching the 49ers. For football fans, fall is like springtime for baseball…hope springs eternal, and we have faith that Coach Singletary and his team can make it happen this year! Go Niners!
