Oakmont Sunday Symposium
The next Oakmont Sunday Symposium will be Sept. 12 with Eric Thompson, Ph.D., speaking on “The Semi-Conscious Art of Making a Religion.” This event is from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the East Recreation Center in Oakmont.
Dr. Thompson is an instructor and the Coordinator of Religious Studies at Santa Rosa Junior College. He will examine the interplay between human creativity (the ‘art’ part) and the dialectic process that goes into creating and establishing a major religion, its mythology and dogma. Thompson will discuss both Mormonism and Islam at the symposium. He was in Israel this summer during the infamous “flotilla” incident,” and will comment on that in his lecture.
All Oakmont residents and their friends are welcome to attend. The Symposium has been going on for nearly 20 years, presenting speakers on a wide range of subjects. The programs are videotaped and many past programs are available to the public at www.oaksunsym.org. Open to all Oakmont residents and their guests.
