Big Heart Luncheon slated for Feb. 15

Every year the Kenwood Education Foundation expresses their appreciation to those that make a difference in the community. An honorary luncheon is put on, giving an opportunity for friends, family, and the community at large to give a big, “Thank You.”

This year’s event will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 15, at the Quail Inn restaurant in Oakmont, 7035 Oakmont Drive.

The recipients of this year’s Big Heart awards are Jay and Anne Cobb, and co-winners Guy Slater and Joy Bohlke-Slater and Monty and Renee Hayward.

Jay and Anne Cobb live in Oakmont and are both retired educators. The two still contribute greatly to the cause of education, for children and adults alike. Jay currently sits on the Kenwood School District’s Board of Trustees, and, through the Oakmont Kiwanis Club, has volunteered many hours in Kenwood School as well as Luther Burbank Elementary School in Santa Rosa. Anne and Jay are presently the coordinators of The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute’s education programs in Oakmont, where lecturers give a series of classes on a variety of subjects.

Guy, Joy, Renee and Monty are being honored for their roles in establishing a new tradition in Kenwood – Open Mic night at the Kenwood Depot. Entering its fourth year, Open Mic brings families and community members young and old to the Depot on the third Thursday of the month to play music, sing, recite, and generally just be together. The four have aided in setting up the equipment, organizing food and drink, and managing the constantly growing list of performers. They are Kenwood residents and have also been active parents at Kenwood School.

Tickets for the Feb. 15 luncheon can now be ordered. Prices are as follows: $40 for a single ticket, $100 for a couples ticket (includes raffle tickets), or you can order a table for 10 people ($600) which includes two bottles of wine plus raffle tickets for each guest.

On Feb. 15, a reception starts at 11:30 a.m. with the luncheon beginning at noon. The luncheon will include a musical presentation by the boys and girls of Kenwood School.

Proceeds from this event go to the Kenwood Education Foundation, the fundraising arm of the Kenwood School District, which helps raise monies for important school programs, such as art, music, physical education and computer education.
