Village Chat

From left: Dave, Chris, Jon, and Rob Chandler.
Congratulations to Jon Chandler! He just passed the California Bar exam and will be joining his father David and oldest brother, Dave Jr., in the family law firm. Jon is a Kenwood School, Maria Carrillo High School, Chico State, and Golden Gate University Law School grad. He was also part of the Honors Lawyering Program at GGU. So, of David and Darien Chandler's four sons, two are lawyers and two are teachers. Dave, who got his JD from UOP McGeorge School of Law, has been with the firm for 10 years now. Chris teaches for Glenn County Office of Education, Alternative Ed, in Willows, and Rob is a history teacher at Maria Carrillo. Chris, Jon and Rob all went to Chico State for undergrad, and Chris got his teaching credential there, while Rob got his at Cal Poly.

Carrie Kerwin in Cairo
In October, Carrie Kerwin and her mother Bobbie Russell took a 14-day cruise to the Holy Land, fulfilling Bobbie's lifelong dream of going to Israel. They also went to Egypt, Turkey, Greece, and Italy, and Carrie sent us this great KP photo op from the pyramids in Cairo.

Stephen Hom visiting Cambria.
Stephen Hom of Oakmont visited Cambria during Halloween week and snapped a photo while reading the Kenwood Press with a new found friend.

Sallie and Chuck Wood navigating a canal in Yorkshire.
Back in September, Sallie and Chuck Wood operated a “narrowboat” on the Calder River and its canals in South Yorkshire, England. Chuck said, “During our four-day journey, Sallie earned the unofficial title of 'Lock Master' as we negotiated 30 or so locks along the canal. Our 44-foot long boat was a comfy floating residence.” And the locals were happy that they brought along some California sunshine, too.

The results are in from Dunbar School's very successful Jog-a-thon, which saw students and staff running laps and raising money to benefit the school. The students who collected the most donations are as follows: First prize: 1st grader Kellen Dunning, $450. Kellen won a $50 gift certificate to Old School. Second prize: Kindergartener Sebastian Zambrano, $290. Sebastian won a CamelBak backpack.

Students who ran the most laps: 4th grader William Morfin completed 42 laps to earn a $50 gift certificate to Eraldi's, and 5th grader Jose Hernandez completed 40 laps and won a CamelBak water bottle for his efforts. The class that returned all pledges first was Mrs. Melendy's class, and Ms. Gauci's class collected the most donations. And the grand total … drum roll, please … $7,077!

And that's all I have room for today. As we go to print, it's the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, so I wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving, even though you won't read this until Dec. 1.
