North valley resident sought for SVCAC

First District Supervisor Susan Gorin invites community members to apply for positions on local policy making bodies. Applications are available online at sonomacounty.ca.gov/Boards-Commissions-Task-Forces. The vacancy list on the site shows available opportunities for involvement.

In the First District, Supervisor Gorin is currently calling for applicants for the following commissions and boards:

Sonoma Valley Citizens Advisory Committee (SVCAC): Two vacancies. Available seats are restricted to individuals residing in South Sonoma Valley and North Sonoma Valley. See website for maps and boundaries, www.sonoma-county.org/prmd/gisdata/pdfs/svcac_e_size.pdf.

The SVCAC is a joint advisory agency with representation from the County of Sonoma and the City of Sonoma to share responsibility for local planning in Sonoma Valley. The Committee provides a regular forum for citizen participation in the formation of public policy, considers issues concerning the Sonoma Valley, evaluates solutions to these issues, advises elected officials and other decision makers, and forms a bridge for communication between the various governmental agencies and the general public.

Meeting Schedule: Fourth Wednesday of most months at 6:30 p.m. Location: Sonoma Police Department, Community Room, 177 First St. West, Sonoma.

Alcohol and Drug Problems Advisory Board: One vacancy. Members of this board participate in the planning process of collaborative short and long term goals and objectives for alcohol and other drug service delivery for all segments of the community; assist in the development of appropriate and effective evaluation strategies for programs; assist in the process to address current and future service needs; encourage and educate the public to understand the nature of alcohol and other drug problems; and encourage community support of alcohol and drug programs.

Meeting Schedule: Third Wednesday of each month from 5-7 p.m. Location: Orenda Center, meeting room #1, 1430 Neotomas Ave., Santa Rosa.
