Walk & Roll to School Day
Wednesday, Oct. 4, is International Walk & Roll to School Day, so pay particular attention when driving to and from work. Schools across Sonoma County will be joining in the Bay Area and worldwide celebration of International Walk to School Day, doing their part to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, traffic congestion and improve community health and safety.
Because so many of their students live too far away to walk or ride, Kenwood and Dunbar elementary schools are not part of the program, but support the ideas of healthier lifestyles, greenhouse gas reductions and pedestrian safety.
Students, parents, teachers, and community leaders choose ways to get to school that are healthier for themselves and the planet. The event helps Sonoma County achieve its goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions to 25 percent below 1990 levels.
The event is produced by the Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition Safe Routes to School Program, with support from Safe Kids Sonoma County, Kaiser Permanente Northern California, and the Center for Climate Protection’s ECO2School Program. The Sonoma County Safe Routes to School program is supported by the Measure M Transportation Tax.
