Oakmont elections: Your questions sought
Oakmont is gearing up for the 2018 elections with a Candidates Forum set for Feb 21 at 6 p.m. in the Berger Center. The OVA nominating committee will present its slate of candidates at an OVA board meeting Feb. 6.
Pat Amadeo will moderate the forum. The 2018 hopefuls will introduce themselves to the community and respond to questions submitted in advance to the nominating committee. Members are asked to fill out a question form and mail it or drop it off in the OVA office. You may also send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. No questions will be taken from the floor.
The form is available in the Kenwood Press, the Oakmont News, and through a link in the Friday Oakmont E-Blast. Questions must be received in the OVA office box or via email by Feb. 16.
Ruthie Snyder, chair of the nominating committee, said the five-member team has been working hard to get the required number of candidates. “This has not been the easiest task I’ve ever had,” she said. “People seem reluctant to throw their hat in the ring and that’s unfortunate for the community. What we are trying to do is recruit people who will run as independent candidates.”
The 2018 ballots will arrive at households March 1. Members will vote for five director positions and must return completed ballots to an independent inspector of elections, or they may hand deliver ballots to the Annual Meeting by 3 p.m. Monday, April 2, at the Berger Center.
Positions up for election include the four currently held by Gloria Young, Kathleen Connelly, Linda Oneto and Karen Oswald. Director Ken Heyman resigned in January; creating a vacant fifth spot on the ballot. Young is completing a two-year term and said she would not seek re-election. Connelly, Oneto and Oswald were appointed following the resignations of three directors since April. All are eligible to run.
