Sudden Oak Death seminars

Sonoma County Master Gardener Sudden Oak Death (SOD) specialists are hosting a two-day event on Friday, Oct. 12, and Saturday. Oct. 13. The free seminars hosted by Sonoma County Master Gardeners and scientists from U.C. Berkeley will discuss results from the 2012 SOD Blitz. The Blitz was a community project to help monitor the extent of Sudden Oak Death in our neighborhoods and local landscapes. Dr. Matteo Garbeletto will present the latest findings on the spread of the disease. The seminar is open to the public and will be held from 6-7 p.m. at the U.C. Cooperative Extension, 133 Aviation Blvd., Suite 109, Santa Rosa.

On Saturday, Oct. 13, Dr. Garbeletto will give two in-depth workshops on prevention and treatment of the disease which is threatening oaks throughout Northern California. The workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at the Veterans Memorial Building, 282 High Street, Sebastopol.

Dr. Garbelotto will repeat his presentation from 2-4 p.m. at Spring Lake Regional Park, Upper Oak Knolls Picnic Area, 5585 Newanga Av., Santa Rosa.
