Luncheon honors Big Hearts

Quail Inn Restaurant

Wednesday February 2013 - 11:00am to

The 13th Annual Big Heart Luncheon, sponsored by the Kenwood Education Foundation (KEF) takes place on Wednesday, Feb. 13, at the Quail Inn in Oakmont.

Big Heart honorees are selected from nominated individuals, couples, businesses or organizations who have given time and energy or have gone above and beyond the call of duty to make a difference for the children of Kenwood Elementary School and the Valley of the Moon.

This year’s Big Hearts are Karen Borgfeldt, Maurice Tegelaar, and Scott Harris. Borgfeldt is the owner of Hello Beautiful Skin Clinic, the mother of two daughters at Kenwood School, and a prior member, president and supporter of KEF. Tegelaar, of Pacific Union International, is a past member of KEF and continued supporter of the educational programs at Kenwood School. Harris is an active member of the Oakmont Kiwanis Club, whose mission is dedicated to serving the children of the world, one child at a time. Harris is being recognized for his leadership and service the past three years as chairman of the Annual Wii Bowl-A-Thon, which is held at Kenwood School and sponsored by the Oakmont Wii Bowling League and Oakmont Kiwanis Club. Over that time the Bowl-A-Thon has raised $30,000, with $15,000 donated to the KEF for the benefit of Kenwood School children.

The KEF was founded in 1999 and raises funds for programs that are not sufficiently funded by government (county, state and federal) allotments. The funds raised by the foundation are used for music, art, library, classroom aides, the computer program, physical education, child care center and mini-grants to teachers.

The event starts at 11:30 a.m., and will include a delicious luncheon, presentation of awards, and entertainment by the Kenwood School Band under the direction of Gary Vogensen. All proceeds benefit the children of Kenwood School. Ticket prices vary with “Best Friend” at $40; “Sweethearts” for two at $100, which includes bonus items; and a “True Love” table for 10 at $600, which includes wine and raffle tickets.

To buy tickets, please visit www.kenwoodeducationfoundation.org, or send your ticket requests to KEF, P.O. Box 85, Kenwood, CA 95452, or email kefinfo@gmail.com.
