Classical music class at Oakmont Gardens

Oakmont Gardens

Thursday March 21st 2013 - 11:00am to

The “Explorations in Classical Music” class meets in the private dining room at Oakmont Gardens, 301 White Oak Drive, on Thursday, March 21, from 11 a.m. to noon. Mae Lucas will be enacting scenes from the lives of three women composers and performing some of their piano pieces. She will feature Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel (Felix Mendelssohn’s older sister), Teresa Carreo (best woman pianist of the late 19th century), and Lili Boulanger (Nadia Boulanger’s younger sister). The works of these three 19th century composers, from Germany, Venezuela, and France, deserve to be better-known today. For more information, call Mae Lucas at 938-8241.

Lucas, a Kenwood resident, will also be giving a presentation entitled “Three Women Composers - II” on Saturday, March 30, 2 to 4 p.m., at the Sitting Room, 2025 Curtis Drive, Penngrove. Admission is free.
