July 4 in Kenwood - No better place to be!

Kenwood Plaza Park

Thursday July 4th 2013 - to

Kenwood will raise the flag high on our nation's birthday, and you and your family are invited to partake in the many activities that are going on here that day.

Take a run/walk

The Empire Runners Club will host the 42nd Annual Kenwood Footrace (a 10K and a 3K). Online registration is open until June 30 and costs $40 for adults (18 and over), $30 for youth (10-17), and children 9 and under are $10. Race day registration, if available, starts at Kenwood Plaza Park on July 4 at 6 a.m. and cost is $50 for adults and $40 for youth and children. All will get a commemorative shirt, and the first 1,500 finishers receive commemorative glassware. Participants will receive $5 off the Kenwood Community Church pancake breakfast (with bib number).

Kenwood Community Church Pancake Breakfast

Once again the folks at Kenwood Community Church will be serving up a delicious breakfast from 7 to 11 a.m., which includes pancakes, eggs, sausage, orange juice and coffee. There is also a silent auction full of goodies, so don't be bashful in your bidding. The church is located on Channing Row right next to Plaza Park.

Kenwood July 4 Hometown Parade

Starting at 10 a.m. along Warm Springs Road and then around Plaza Park, you can witness the glory that is the Kenwood July 4th Hometown Parade, voted by galaxies everywhere as the best small town parade in the (known) universe. This year we will honor two long-time Kenwoodians, Nathan Miron and Dee Sand, both of whom have made important contributions to our community. This year's parade King and Queen are Aidan Eljumaily and Paulina Lorenc, and this year's parade judges are Cathy Fletcher, John LemMon, Sarah Phillips and Evan Mac-Leod. We are honored once again to have the U.S. Coast Guard Training Center Petaluma Honor Guard. The national anthem will be played by trumpeter extraordinaire Oliver Hunt.

If you would like to be in the parade, go to www.kenwoodparade.com, or drop by the Kenwood Press office for an application.

Music in Plaza Park

After the parade, stick around for some July 4th jazz featuring Oliver Hunt and the Kenwood Jazz Quartet.
