Historical Society presents "Not Losing the Real Glen Ellen"

Glen Ellen Community Church

Saturday February 22nd 2014 - 2:00pm to

“Not Losing the Real Glen Ellen” is the title of the next free public presentation by the Glen Ellen Historical Society. Board president Charles Mikulik, a graduate student in the Cultural Resource Management program at Sonoma State University, will be talking about changes that are about to take place in the Valley of the Moon. He will explore changes ranging from the inevitable disposition of the Sonoma Developmental Center, to the eventual creation of a Glen Ellen Historic District by the Permit and Resource Management Department of Sonoma County.

This presentation will be an accessible discussion of the politics and procedures that go into cultural and heritage resource protection and preservation policies, laws, and regulations. Mikulik will examine the idea of stewardship, and how we can affect the politics of our history by identifying, documenting, and managing our heritage resources. Mikulik’s insights into the academic and political forces that influence the very definition of our community will help us to understand what goes into the decision about who we’ve been, and who we will become.

The talk will be on Saturday, Feb. 22, at 2 p.m. in Mayflower Hall near the Glen Ellen Community Church, 5311 O’Donnell Lane in Glen Ellen. Admission is free, although donations and membership in the Glen Ellen Historical Society are encouraged.
