Sonoma Mountain Zen Center hosts bazaar

Sonoma Mountain Zen Center

Saturday September 6th 2014 - 11:00am to

Sonoma Mountain Zen Center (SMZC) will host its fifth Annual Bazaar on the Mountain on Saturday, Sept. 6, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The bazaar is a chance to see the rural beauty of Zen Center grounds, and to share the creativity of many of its members, friends and North Bay artists and artisans.

This year the bazaar features a silent auction with a wide variety of items and services, including a San Miguel vacation rental for a week, a framed original calligraphy by Zen Master Hoitsu Suzuki Roshi, two weeks of lodging in a guesthouse in Switzerland, a one-week sojourn in a beachfront inn in Vietnam, winery tours, handcrafted jewelry, hot springs and temple stays. There will be hourly door prizes and a special bonus drawing for anyone who purchases at least five tickets.

A diverse group of artisans and craftspeople will offer paintings, sculptures, fiber and bamboo art, photography, ceramics, calligraphy, handmade jewelry, honey, ethnic artifacts, and more. Lively demonstrations by musicians and performers will include formal tea ceremonies, Taiko drumming, Aikido martial art, “Way of the Bow” archery, Shakuhachi flute, and Koto. Children can join the storytelling circles, have their faces painted, and feast on snow cones.

Silent auction tickets ($5 each) can be purchased by calling 545-8105.

Founded by Jakusho Kwong-roshi and Shinko Kwong in 1973, Sonoma Mountain Zen Center is a place of quiet beauty where people from around the world can realize their inherent goodness through Zen Buddhist practice.

Come to the bazaar and watch live performances, enjoy scrumptious bento boxes and baked goods, pick up some fine craft work, and catch the vitality of an authentic Zen meditation center. Whether you’re interested in art, Zen or a unique experience, SMZC’s fifth annual bazaar will have something intriguing for you!

Admission and parking are free. The Zen Center is located at 6367 Sonoma Mountain Road.
