“Classical and Popular Music Explorations” is a music appreciation class at Oakmont Gardens, 301 White Oak Dr. The class meets in the private dining room, 10:15 to 11:30 a.m., on Thursday, Dec. 4 and 11. Class resumes on Jan. 15, 2015 for the spring semester.

The Dec. 4 class begins a study of Romantic-era Italian opera. Hear and see scenes from Rossini's The Barber of Seville. Following up on previous sessions in November, instructor Mae Lucas will perform piano solos by Chopin and Debussy, demonstrating their signature sounds.

On Dec. 11, the class will focus on the life and operas of Guiseppe Verdi, including excerpts from Rigoletto, Nabucco, and Aida. Lucas will perform a nocturne by Edvard Grieg.

This free class is sponsored by Santa Rosa Junior College. No fee is required. You may enroll at the class location during any class meeting. For more information, call Mae Lucas at 508-8781.
