Virtuoso violin-piano duo coming to Oakmont

Oakmont Berger Center

Thursday April 9th 2015 - 1:30pm to

Music at Oakmont presents acclaimed artists Elena Urioste, violin, and Michael Brown, piano, on Thursday, April 9, at 1:30 p.m. in the Berger Center. Each performer is a distinguished solo artist, and they will join forces to present works by Elgar, Britten, Copland, and Gershwin.

Since first soloing with the Philadelphia Orchestra at age 13, Urioste has performed with major orchestras including the Cleveland Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, Boston Pops, and the National, Atlanta, Baltimore, Detroit, and Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestras. Her debut appearances with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra were praised by three separate critics for “hypnotic delicacy,” “expressive poise,” and “lyrical sensitivity.”

Michael Brown has been praised in the New York Times as “a young piano visionary.” An equally dedicated composer, he has appeared on four continents, at such major venues as New York’s Carnegie Hall and Avery Fisher Hall, Wigmore Hall in London, and festivals including Marlboro, Ravinia, Caramoor, Mostly Mozart, Music@M.nlo, Beijing International, and Kyoto International. His debut solo CD features his own works as well as those of Schubert and Debussy.

At the April 9 concert, look for the announcement of Music at Oakmont’s gala 2015-16 season, celebrating 25 years of outstanding classical music in Oakmont. For more information go to www.musicatoakmont.org.
