Derby Day – a great treat for Mom
Saturday May 2016 -
Derby Day, Saturday, May 7, at Chateau St. Jean Winery in Kenwood, is a gala event, echoing the pageantry of the Kentucky Derby, while benefiting the Council on Aging’s Meals on Wheels program.
Featuring the chance to dress in over-the-top southern style, savor a sumptuous four-course lunch, and sip delicious wines in scenic Sonoma Valley, it’s a perfect Mother’s Day treat, on the day before Mother’s Day.
Festivities will include a live auction for spa packages, trips, glamour photo sessions, and personalized dinners prepared at breathtaking locations.
In honor of Council on Aging’s 50th anniversary celebration during 2016, guests are being encouraged to arrive in Derby Day attire that recalls the hats and fashions worn by race goers at Churchill Downs in past eras.
And of course, the more outrageous the hat, the more likely the wearer is to receive an award for the “best dressed” and “most creative” outfits. People who so choose get a chance to strut down the catwalk, showing off their finery in an informal fashion show.
Proceeds benefit Meals on Wheels, which delivers more than 290,000 meals per year to frail, home-bound seniors who might otherwise go without. Last year, the event raised more than $350,000 for the program.
Tickets at $250 each, or $2,500 for a table of 10, are now on sale. For more details go to www.CouncilonAging.com/DerbyDay.
