Quarryhill hosts medicinal herbalists

Quarryhill Botanical Garden

Saturday October 22nd 2016 - to

Author and leader in the field of medicinal herb cultivation, Peggy Schafer of the Chinese Medicinal Herb Farm, along with Sean Fannin, a practitioner of traditional Chinese medicine, will lead a walk at Quarryhill Botanical Garden on Saturday, Oct. 22, from 10 a.m. to noon, highlighting the many medicinal plants located on the property.

Schafer is a long-time herb grower and teacher in West Sonoma County who published a one-of-a-kind cultivation guide in 2011, The Chinese Medicinal Herb Farm: A Cultivator's Guide to Small-Scale Organic Herb Production. In her book, Schafer presents invaluable information on how to produce high-quality, efficacious herbs in all climates of the United States, grown and harvested according to classical Chinese tradition.

Since 1992, Fannin has worked in a clinical practice that is based on the Chinese medical and philosophical classics, and now specializes in Chinese herbalism, medical qigong, and client education. Fannin's primary interest is in classical Asian philosophy and its application to modern life. This has formed the basis for his clinical practice, teaching and writing.

This is a rare opportunity to meet Schafer and Fannin, learn about the many potential health benefits of Chinese herbs, and get tips on how to grow your own herb garden.

Cost is $15 members, $20 nonmembers. Space is limited, so call 996-3166 to reserve your seat. Quarryhill is located at 12841 Sonoma Hwy. in Glen Ellen. For more information visit www.quarryhillbg.org.
