Big Heart award dinner

Deerfield Ranch Winery

Friday March 2018 - to

Save the evening of Friday, March 9, for the annual Big Heart awards ceremony, which will be held in the caves at Deerfield Ranch Winery in Kenwood. The Big Heart awards honor members of the local Kenwood community who have given back to our town and its children in a big way. Past winners have included the Kenwood Fire Department, the Kunde family, the Benziger family, Jon and Susan Reiter, and the Ghisla family. Last year, the event honored Leslie LemMon, Gary Nelson, and Peter Hockman.

On March 9, the Kenwood Education Foundation will honor four members of our community who played a critical role in helping Kenwood, Oakmont, and Glen Ellen residents during the October wildfires. The winners of the Big Heart award for the 2017-2018 school year are Pat Kerrigan of KSRO Radio, Steve Marshall of Marshall’s Garage, and Aspen Mayers and Mike Scheffer of Swede’s Feeds.

Local radio host Pat Kerrigan was a voice of sensitivity, encouragement, and calm during the October fires, going above and beyond in service to our community. She kept the community informed of fire status, available shelters, and other critical information. She is a longtime local resident and supporter of Kenwood School.

Steve Marshall is the longtime owner of Marshall’s Garage. During the recent wildfires, he provided critical car and truck repair services for first responders. If you’ve ever left your lights on or experienced car trouble, you know how lucky our community is to have someone like Steve looking out for us.

Aspen Mayers and Mike Scheffer of Swede’s Feeds share a warm, down-to-earth spirit that makes them beloved members of the community. During the fires, they helped keep our local animals safe and fed by giving away supplies, bedding and treats, easing the worries of pet owners during that stressful time.

Thank you to Robert and PJ Rex of Deerfield Ranch Winery for generously offering to host the Big Heart event in the wine caves for the second year in a row. KEF is extremely grateful to the Rex family for their support.

Tickets for the Big Heart event will be available in early February in the school office or at www.kenwoodeducationfoundation.org.
