Leaves, seeds and bark walk at Quarryhill

Quarryhill Botanical Garden

Saturday November 10th 2018 - 10:00am to

Quarryhill tour leader and certified California Naturalist Carolyn Greene will lead an Autumn walk throughout Quarryhill Botanical Garden on Saturday, Nov. 10, 10 a.m.-noon.

Showy flowers are the stars of every garden, but leaves, seeds and bark can be equally interesting, unique and colorful. Join Greene to explore the garden at one of its most beautiful times – mid-fall – identifying plants and sharing stories about the garden’s diverse flora through their leaves, bark and seeds. Greene will talk about the differences between different types of fruit, how bark actually “works,” leaf shapes and function, and more. Crowd-pleasers are sure to be rose hips, various cones, and the fruit of Cornus (dogwood), Callicarpa (beauty bush) and Idesia.

Walkers are encouraged to wear sturdy shoes for the garden’s hilly paths; bring lunch to enjoy after the 1.5-mile trek. Advanced registration is required. The fee is $20 for non-members, $15 for members. Heavy rain cancels.

To register go to www.quarryhillbg.org/page171.html. Quarryhill Botanical Garden is located at 12841 Sonoma Hwy., Glen Ellen.
