Film studies continue in Oakmont

Oakmont Berger Center

Saturday March 9th 2019 - 10:00am to

Ernie Rose will teach a class on “Documentary Film Masterworks” through Oakmont’s Lifelong Learning Program on three consecutive Saturday mornings, March 9, 16, and 23, 10 a.m.-noon, in Berger Auditorium. Rose has worked on more than 200 films in many different parts of the world during his 70-year career. Following his service as a Navy pilot during World War II, he earned the first Masters Degree ever awarded by the University of California for a documentary he made instead of a written thesis. Now at age 93, Rose still shows and discusses his favorite documentaries at several Santa Rosa retirement communities.

Films featured will be (DIS)HONESTY: The Truth About Lies, showing how pervasive that phenomenon is at all ages; OBIT: Writing to Deadline, one of only three films ever made inside the editorial offices of the New York Times, featuring those who must artfully sum up an important life in 800 words or less, day after day; and Our Man In Tehran, recounting how the Canadian Ambassador to Iran hid seven U.S. diplomats and helped them escape the country when Iranians took over the American embassy and held it hostage for almost two years.

Tickets for the class may be purchased by calling SRJC at 527-4372, ext. 6.
