Armin R. Tietze, dearly beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 29, at the age of 91. He will be missed and lovingly remembered.

He led a full life. Born in 1929 in Buxheim, Germany, he met his wife Doris at age 19 while both were students in Cologne (Köln), and they married in 1952. Armin and Doris had five children together and lived in Germany until emigrating to the U.S. in 1970. They lived near San Jose in Almaden, California, until moving to Santa Rosa (Oakmont) in 2008.

After receiving his masters degree in physics from the University of Köln, Armin had a successful career working for 3M and then IBM, where he focused on magnetic coatings and held several patents that made hard drives possible. Later in his career, he developed a framework of theories regarding optimization and quality control with universal but two continents.

Armin is survived by his wife of 68 years, Doris; his children and their families: Lothar and wife Flor, Christoph and wife Jeanette, Thomas and wife Jeannie, Michael and wife Lynn, and Claudia; 10 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and his sister Maria and husband Peter.

An interment service for family members was held in Santa Rosa on Nov. 13, and after the pandemic, a date for a Celebration of Life service will be announced.
