Fund benefits family of Dunbar student

Dunbar Elementary School in Glen Ellen is mourning the loss of one of its students. Luis Colin, a third-grader, was killed in an automobile accident on Interstate 5 near Fresno on Tuesday, Jan. 5, along with four family members.

A GoFundMe benefitting Luis’s father, Jorge Colin of Sonoma, a newspaper carrier, seeks to raise $70,000 to offset expenses for final arrangements. The page offers touching details about the family and the gravity of its loss. Also killed in the accident were Colin’s mother, Martha Colin, 52, a carrier for the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, wife Idalia Perez, 32, who was eight months pregnant, daughter Ixzel, 10, a student at El Verano Elementary School, and son Jorge, 1. Luis was 8 years old. The family was returning from a visit to Mexico when the accident occurred.

On the GoFundMe page, Luis is remembered for his love of toy guns and Hot Wheels cars. He will be missed by his teachers, aides, and friends at Dunbar.
