John Robert Pons

John Robert Pons of Kenwood, California, passed away on May 2, 2021, at the age of 77 years. Born on October 16 in San Francisco, John grew up in the Richmond District with his parents, Charles and Josephine, and his two sisters, Carmelita and Rita. His childhood solidified his love for the San Francisco Giants and 49ers, fresh crab, and crusty sourdough bread.

John enlisted in the Army in 1963, after which he began a 34-year career working for the City of San Francisco that concluded as a project manager with the Bureau of Engineering.

In 1977, John and his wife Kathy moved to Kenwood to raise their family. Although he had a challenging commute, he always took care of his family and made time on the weekends for socializing and working around the house.

During the summers, John enjoyed going on camping trips with family and friends that would involve fishing, grilling, working on a jigsaw puzzles, and playing gin rummy. John is remembered for his unconditional kindness, thoughtful support, and retelling stories that made him laugh. He will be missed every single day.

John is survived by his wife, Kathy; his children, Jason and Monica; his sisters and their extended families; his extensive in-law family; and innumerable friends. To honor John, donations can be made to the Junior Giants Community Fund or St. Joseph’s Hospice Services.
