Mayacamas VFD board seeks applications

Mayacamas Olds, President of the Mayacamas Volunteer Fire Department (MVFD) board of directors, is looking for people to serve as directors of the mountain fire district, serving over 7,500 acres of steep terrain east of Glen Ellen and north of the city of Sonoma. And, yes, Ms. Olds was born, raised and named after those mountains.

There are four positions up for election, including the posts of President, Treasurer and Chief Information Officer (website, social media, etc.). Sitting board members Carly Wood (CIO), Suzi Molofsky (Secretary), and Dan Leuck (Fire Safe Liaison), along with Pat Matthews and Allison Ash are already running for these seats. Current treasurer Jennifer Apagar is stepping down in September.

“Anyone who wants to run should send their resume to [email protected] by July 6,” Olds said. Residents of the district are invited to “stop by Station 8 and cast four votes.”

MVFD board meetings are open to the public and occur on the second Monday of each month at 5 p.m. They are held at Station 8 at the intersection of Trinity and Cavedale Roads.

The Mayacamas Volunteer Fire Department is a 501(c) (3) corporation, federal tax ID number: 94-275-0728.

While the district merged with the Sonoma Valley Fire District in 2018, the MVFD corporation continues to raise money in support of firefighting operations.

The MVFD currently has 12 volunteer firefighters who are fully trained to state firefighting standards and operate with four fire engines. They are usually the first to respond to any emergency or fire in their district which has its own special needs.
