Oakmont Fire Safe Fair

The Fire Safe Fair promises two information and fun-filled hours, offering everything from food, big and small raffle prizes, giveaways, vendor demonstrations and preparedness education.

The event is hosted by Oakmont Village Association, Firewise Committee, Map Your Neighborhood (MYN) and Oakmont Emergency Preparedness Committee (OEPC). Raffle highlights include one Vulcan Vent whole-house installation, one home application of Fortify longterm fire retardant, NOAA radios, go-bags from REI and more. There will be live demos at the Vulcan burn trailer by Valor, FireGuard, and WaterGuard. The Santa Rosa Fire Department will be on hand to answer questions. The OVA-sponsored BBQ features tri-tip, chicken, and veggie burgers.

The Firewise Committee will have info on the Firewise policy, home hardening and fire-smart landscaping ideas, mulch guidelines, what the assessors will be looking for and even schedule an appointment.

MYN will be there to talk about how to get started in your neighborhood and will have information on topics such as what to do in an evacuation if you (or your neighbor) don’t drive, as well as the newest evacuation zone designations.

OEPC will have recruiting sign-ups for neighborhood Zone Communicators (walkie-talkies), ham radios, NOAA radio and alert setup (bring your own if you need help). COPE will also be present, talking about how to prepare for an emergency or sign up to be a COPE leader, and answer questions.
