B&B proposed for 50 Maple in Kenwood

By Jay Gamel

Theodore and Joanna Luthin filed for a Use Permit to set up a bed & breakfast unit in their 1,500-squarefoot, three-bedroom home at 50 Maple, next to VJB and behind W Realty and the Mayo Reserve Room.

According to the Aug. 25 permit application, “Owners will occupy one of the three bedrooms. Two of the other bedrooms will be rented out. A graphic design and event photography business will be operated on-site. No exterior improvements are proposed. Three parking spots are available on-site on the existing driveway. In addition to the bed & breakfast, the project proposes including an on-site event every 14 days. These events will be private and not open to the public. No food or beverages will be offered for sale, nor will tickets be sold. There will be no amplified music. The project site is located on a Neighborhood Commercial District zoned parcel.”

The owners stated: “This area is under-served by hotels, so this seems to be both an appropriate use for the property and a benefit to the community.”

No date has been set for public input, though comment from other agencies was closed on Sept. 8.
