Mark your calendars for Oakmont’s 17th Annual Veterans Day Appreciation event on Thursday, Nov. 11, at noon, in the Berger Center, 6633 Oakmont Dr.

The Oakmont Village Association (OVA) is inviting all veterans, and families and friends of veterans, to join this celebration of Veterans Day. All veterans will be honored during the ceremony, both by branch of service and by which conflicts they served.

The event will include the traditional parading of the colors, appropriate service anthem music, and notable guest speakers who will talk about the importance of military service and the valor of those who served our country and helped preserve the freedoms we enjoy. Veterans will be asked to stand and be honored when their service music is played.

Veterans are encouraged to wear uniforms, ball caps, or insignias of the service in which they have served.

Featured local speakers for the 2021 Oakmont Veterans Day Appreciation event will be Charlie Ensley and Kathy Ruiz. Ensley, past-president of the Kiwanis Club, has participated in the veterans event for nine years and will speak on the history of Veterans Day and learn about the founder of the Veterans Day event 17 years ago. Ruiz, a resident of Oakmont since 2002, will talk about the origins of the Oakmont Veterans Day event, when Mel Ruiz had a vision to make a celebration and parade.

We look forward to seeing you at the upcoming Veterans Day Appreciation event this Nov. 11. Pease join the celebration to thank all our veterans.
