Oakmont Veterans Day event set for Nov. 11

By Capt. Bob Cortelyou, U.S. Navy Retired, Chair of the OVA Veterans Appreciation Event Committee

Join Oakmont’s 17th Annual Veterans Day Appreciation event on Thursday, Nov. 11, at noon in the Berger Center, 6633 Oakmont Dr., to celebrate and thank all our veterans for their service.

We are inviting all veterans, and families and friends of veterans, to join our celebration of Veterans Day. We will have the traditional parading of the colors, service anthem music, refreshments, and notable guest speakers such as Sonoma County First District Supervisor Susan Gorin, Jack Tibbetts, and our local speakers, Kathy Ruiz and Charlie Ensley. Ensley will speak on the history of Veterans Day, and Oakmont resident Ruiz will talk about the origins of the Oakmont Veterans Day event, including Mel Ruiz’s vision for a celebration and parade.
